A sheriff’s official announced on Friday that the death of a married couple, whose remains were found by their child this week in their house in the El Cajon area, was an apparent murder-suicide.
According to a news release from Homicide Lt. Joseph Jarjura, it appears that Eric Orpinela, 42, shot his wife Helen Orpinela, 39, before turning the gun on himself.
According to Jarjura, the couple had three kids, who were 9, 13, and 14. About 9:45 a.m. on Thursday, one of the three kids called the police to report that she had discovered her parents dead in the family’s mobile home in a park off of East Bradley Avenue close to Graves Avenue. Both parents experienced cerebral trauma.
The kids are being taken care of and weren’t hurt, he said.
Until the Medical Examiner’s Office completes its investigation, according to Jarjura, detectives won’t be able to determine when the fatalities occurred.
